Most businesses and companies understand the importance of having a sharp, professional looking office or store. They know that these things represent their company and that customers and other visitors are going to be more willing to do business with them if they like what they see. However, while a strong physical presence is understood to have a tangible impact on the success of a business, a lot of companies don’t realize just how important their digital presence is. More and more people are doing research about companies online and in many cases they will visit your company website long before they ever set foot in a physical location. That is why it is so essential that your website reflects the image that you want. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you are working on your website.

Is It Personalized?

Your website should be distinct and uniquely yours. The last thing you want to do is use a boring, template style design that visitors have seen hundreds of times all over the internet. Ideally as soon as they think of your company they should also be able to visualize your website. The two should have a solid, easy to make connection that sets the right tone for your business and industry.

Consider including such personal touches as an About Page or other section of the site that tells your company story, mission statement, and corporate culture. Make sure your company’s logo is clearly and prominently visible in many places throughout the site. Think about other personal touches you can add like pictures of your storefront or business in action, or even photographs and bios of key personnel.

Is There Brand Consistency?

Make sure that your website design and your business design are in line with each. For instance if your company colors are red and blue, then obviously including a red and blue color scheme on your website is also a good move. By the same token if your logo and other business text are in a specific font, use that font or a similar font for the headings of your webpages. Once again these little touches will help cement the connection between your website and your business in the customers’ minds.

Is It User Friendly?

This tip isn’t so much about having your website in line with your company as it is about having your website useful in general; however, this advice is so important that we could not skip it. Your site should be easy to navigate and very intuitive for customers. They should be able to get to their target destination within a few clicks and they should never be left wondering how to find what they are looking for on your site. The bottom line is that no matter how great your site looks, if it cannot be easily used customers will hate it and will have all been a waste of time.

Is It Reflective of Your Company’s Style?

Your website should have a similar tone to your business. For example if your business prides itself on being fun and casual then you will naturally want to include so playful elements to your web design as well. By contrast, if your company prides itself on its long tradition and simple elegance, you will want to have a more understated, simple tone on your web site. The bottom line is that you don’t want customers thinking, “Why would that company have a website like this?”

The bottom line is that your website should provide customers with the information and services that they are seeking in easy to understand, well-presented format. Remember that for online shoppers it has never been easier for them to simply open a new tab or window and go to your competitor’s site instead, unlike your physical shoppers who might have to get walk out and drive across town. That extra speed and convenience of doing business means that your website has to be more compelling than ever to make sure that your visitors have no desire to go elsewhere for their services.
